ORC Waste Heat to Power Systems

ENEVA ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) systems are high-efficiency energy recovery solutions designed to convert waste heat, especially at medium and low temperatures from industrial processes, engines, or power plants, into electrical energy. Heat that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere is transformed into a continuous and clean electricity source, reducing energy costs and carbon footprint.

  • Electricity generation from waste heat
  • System structure requires no additional fuel
  • Converts otherwise unusable thermal energy into economic return
  • Reduces carbon emissions

WHAT IS AN ORC SYSTEM?

ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) systems operate differently from conventional steam cycles by using organic fluids with low boiling points. The primary cycle fluid, which generates electricity, is usually heated indirectly via a secondary fluid (thermal oil, steam, hot water, or in some applications, direct waste gas).

  • Electric generation capacity: 100 kW – 5 MW
  • Can utilize low, medium, and high temperature sources above 90°C
  • Operates efficiently at temperatures unsuitable for conventional steam turbines
  • Efficient even at small capacities
  • Load can drop to approximately 10% of nominal capacity

WHAT WASTE HEAT SOURCES CAN BE UTILIZED?

  • Gas engines and gas turbines
  • Cogeneration and trigeneration plants
  • Additional recovery from waste heat boiler outputs
  • Cement, glass, and metallurgical process stacks
  • Biomass, biogas, and waste gas plants
  • Industrial furnaces and drying systems

Energy from the waste heat source evaporates the organic fluid. The vapor expands in a turbine or expander to generate electricity. The fluid is then condensed and recirculated in a closed loop. Heat transfer between the organic fluid and the waste heat source can be direct or indirect depending on the application.

  • Analysis of waste heat source continuity and characteristics
  • Integration study with existing process and energy infrastructure
  • Planning electricity use for on-site consumption or grid export
  • Holistic evaluation of gains, internal consumption, and operational costs

Each ORC application is developed with a project-based engineering approach and optimized within the plant’s energy ecosystem.
